About YUFUIN HOGONEKO FOREST
Nestled in the quiet woods of Yufuin, Oita, Hogoneko Forest is a cozy retreat where guests can spend time with adorable rescued cats.
The property features a cat café for relaxing interactions, a restaurant with scenic views of Mt. Yufu, and private cottages where you can stay alongside friendly feline companions.
Surrounded by gentle sunlight filtering through the trees, the charming cat-ear-shaped buildings and beautiful views of Mt. Yufu make perfect spots for memorable photos and videos of your visit.
A portion of all proceeds from accommodation, dining, and café services is donated to support our rescue activities — helping cover food, medical care, and utilities for the cats.

There is no age restriction; however, children of elementary school age or younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Please note that the regular admission fee applies to accompanying adults as well.
For safety reasons, one adult is required for each child.

Meals During Your Stay
You are welcome to use the in-room facilities and equipment to prepare your own meals with ingredients you bring.

A cancellation fee will be charged as follows.

For Our Guests
About the Cottage
- All cottages are non-smoking.Smoking is permitted only on the balcony or in designated outdoor areas.
- Guests are welcome to use all electrical appliances provided in the room, but please be careful with fire and heat sources.
- We kindly ask for your cooperation in separating and disposing of your waste properly.
How to Interact with Our Cats
- Please always put the cats’ comfort first. If a cat is sleeping, kindly let them rest and simply watch quietly.
- Cats love people who let them be themselves. We sometimes introduce each cat’s favorite activities on our social media, but please feel free to ask our staff if you would like to know more about their personalities.
- Cats are very clean animals. Some may hold back from using the litter box if it’s dirty. If you notice a cat has used the toilet, we would truly appreciate your help in cleaning it promptly — it makes both our cats and staff happy.
- Please do not bring human food into the cat room. Some foods can be harmful to cats. Alcohol is also not permitted in the cat room. Thank you for helping us keep the environment safe and comfortable for everyone.
- All of our cats are healthy and live safely in this facility. For their safety, please do not bring any hazardous items or objects that could be accidentally swallowed into the cat room.
- Many cats sleep up to 20 hours a day. To ensure they can rest well, please refrain from entering the cat room between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
About Cat Food and Treats
- To maintain each cat’s health, their meals and treats are carefully managed individually. Cat food is provided by our staff at the front desk, so please refrain from bringing any food or treats for the cats from outside.
- Guests can enjoy the experience of feeding the cats. Please check the feeding time with the front desk staff, and kindly come to the front desk at the designated time to receive the food.
For the Well-being of Our Cats
We kindly ask for your cooperation in following all the rules to ensure the safety and comfort of our cats.
In the event of any prohibited behavior, harassment, or actions that could be considered abusive toward the cats, we may take appropriate measures, including filing a report in accordance with the Animal Welfare and Management Act.

Parking is available within the Hogoneko Forest grounds.
You may also use the shared parking area of Yuyuu Life no Mori, located about a 3-minute walk from Hogoneko Forest.

Some residents live here as their homes or vacation houses,so we kindly ask you not to enter these areas without permission.
The road is narrow, so please drive slowly and be considerate when passing other vehicles.
